What does soldier, poet, king mean?
The three come from "Soldier, Poet, King", a 2015 song by the American folk band The Oh Hellos about three figures still to come: one with a sword, one whose weapon is words, and one with a crown. In this quiz the Soldier is the person who acts and protects, the Poet is the one who feels deeply and puts it into words, and the King is the one who decides and carries the responsibility. Your result is the figure you score highest on, and you see it free the moment you finish.
About this test
A soldier poet king test with three scores: the Soldier (steps in, protects your people, keeps going when it gets hard), the Poet (notices what others miss, needs time alone, says it best in writing) and the King (makes the call, plans ahead, owns it when things go wrong). It's an entertainment quiz built on a song, not a personality model.
What you'll discover

Understanding the Soldier, Poet or King Quiz
This soldier poet king quiz asks 48 questions about ordinary moments, like a friend being picked on, a group that can't choose a restaurant or a song that stays with you all day, and scores all three figures. It takes about 8 minutes. Your result is free when you finish. The full report shows all three scores, so you can see whether you're a clear King or a King with a lot of Poet in you.
The names come from "Soldier, Poet, King" by The Oh Hellos, a folk band started by siblings Tyler and Maggie Heath in San Marcos, Texas. The song is on their 2015 album Dear Wormwood. In January 2023 a Tumblr user posted a 20-question fan quiz inspired by it, and within days people were posting their results on TikTok, usually over the song itself. Ours is a separate quiz with new questions: 16 for each figure, four of them phrased the other way round, so agreeing with everything doesn't decide your result.
Nothing here is research-based. The soldier, the poet and the king are characters from a song, not a personality model, and we decided which everyday habits belong to each one. Another author could sort the same answers differently. We still think the three make a decent mirror, because they ask a real question: when something matters, do you act, feel or take charge? Take your result as a few minutes of thinking about that, not as a verdict.
Where the Soldier, Poet or King Quiz comes from

This quiz is our own construction with its own questions; it is not drawn from that quiz or from any published instrument.
How the Soldier, Poet or King Quiz is scored
Sixteen statements per figure, four of them reverse-keyed, each figure scored from 16 to 80. The highest score becomes your result. It measures how you describe your own everyday behavior, and the link from a set of habits to a figure in a song is a choice we made as authors: someone else could sort the same answers differently.

Questions people ask
Is the soldier poet king quiz free?
Yes. The quiz and your result are free, with no account needed: just your email at the end. Every score, the written analysis and the certificate are in the full report: $1.99$2.41 in the first 30 minutes after you finish, $3.99$4.83 after that, or included in eTestor Unlimited.
Where did the soldier poet king quiz come from?
From a song and a fan quiz. The Oh Hellos released "Soldier, Poet, King" on their album Dear Wormwood in 2015. In January 2023 a fan posted a 20-question quiz inspired by the song, and it spread on TikTok within days as people shared whether they got soldier, poet or king. This quiz is eTestor's own version, with its own questions.
What is the difference between the soldier, the poet and the king?
Picture a friend who has just lost their job. The Soldier turns up that evening and helps rewrite the résumé. The Poet sits with them and finds words for what they're feeling. The King makes a plan: who to call, how to cover rent, what to do on Monday. All three help, in different ways, and most people do a bit of each.
Is the soldier poet king test accurate?
As a mirror, it can be. As a measurement, no. It's an entertainment quiz with no research behind it: the three figures come from a song, and we chose the habits that stand for each. What it does accurately is add up your own answers, so the result reflects how you describe yourself right now.
Can I be more than one of the three?
Yes. Your result is simply your highest score, and two figures often sit close together. The full report shows all three, so a Soldier with a King score just behind can see it. When scores are that close, a retake can flip the result.
