About this test

Love languages told you half the story — love styles tell the rest. This 42-question test measures how you most naturally give and receive love across seven distinct styles: activity (doing things together), appreciation (feeling valued), emotional (being there in hard moments), financial (generosity and investment), intellectual (mind-to-mind connection), physical (touch and closeness), and practical (everyday acts of support). Discover your dominant style, see your full ranking, and finally understand why some gestures land deep while others miss completely.

What you'll discover

Activity

Feeling loved through shared hobbies, projects, and adventures — love as doing things together.

Appreciation

Feeling loved through compliments, gratitude, and being specifically noticed and valued.

Emotional

Feeling loved through emotional safety — a partner who stays close in the hard moments.

Financial

Feeling loved through generosity and investment — a partner who happily spends their resources on your shared world.

Intellectual

Feeling loved through deep conversation and mind-to-mind connection.

Physical

Feeling loved through touch and closeness — hugs, hand-holding, and easy everyday affection.

Practical

Feeling loved through everyday help — acts of support that make daily life genuinely easier.

Understanding the Love Styles Test

The Love Styles Test helps you understand the way you naturally give, receive, and notice love in everyday life. Instead of focusing on a single idea of romance, it looks at seven different patterns of connection, from quality time and words of affirmation to support, touch, generosity, shared thinking, and practical care. With 42 questions, it gives you a clearer picture of what makes you feel genuinely appreciated — and what you tend to offer others when you care about them.

Your results can help explain why some gestures feel meaningful while others seem to miss the mark. You may discover a strong main style, a close second, or a more balanced profile across several styles. That kind of insight can be useful in dating, long-term relationships, and even close friendships, because it gives you a more precise way to talk about needs, preferences, and habits without guessing.

Love styles go beyond the usual one-size-fits-all advice. By showing your full ranking, this test helps you see the difference between what you value most, what you express most easily, and what you may need more of from others. Where the Love Styles Test comes from

John Alan Lee proposed six love styles in Colours of Love (1973); Clyde and Susan Hendrick turned them into the Love Attitudes Scale in 1986.

How the Love Styles Test is scored

Scores across six styles — eros, ludus, storge, pragma, mania and agape. Unlike the love languages, this framework has a validated measurement instrument behind it and has been studied across cultures, though the styles are better understood as attitudes that shift by relationship than as fixed types.
